What is Erectile Dysfunction ?

Erectile Dysfunction or Importance is the inability of erection of penis in men or the inability to hold the erection for longer enough required for a proper sexual intercouse process to complete. Impotence is another name for ED but impotence is not commonly used. 

Erectile dysfunction is not a disease that you need to worry about; it is just the inability for erection during sexual activities. It is most common in men after the age of 45 years old but you can always consult with your general physician for its treatment.

How is Erection caused ?

Penis is a highly vascular organ having numerous erectile tissues and Vascular Spaces. Erectile Dysfunction is caused when there is an increase in blood flow through arteries present in penis and filling up the vascular spaces which result in penis muscle to enlarge and rigid which is known as Erection.

A male gets an erection when he is sexually aroused whether by sexual thoughts or by direct contact and due to this phenomenon the penis muscle gets relaxed and a large amount of blood flows into the penile veins.

Again when the muscle contracts and the blood flows out the erection end. This is how the erection process continues over and over again.

Causes of Erectile Dysfunction

ED can be caused due to varieties of  health Conditions and issues. The Causes of ED are not the same for every individual so it is always advised to consult with your doctor for proper treatments. 

There are many medicines and Supplements nowadays available on the internet claiming to treat ED but believe me it is not possible to treat ED problems of different individuals with only one particular demicine. 

Here the common problems of Erectile Dysfunction are discussed  below :-

1. Diabetes –  

Especially type – 2 Diabetes causes erectile dysfunction.  This happens when the blood sugar level is too high for a long period of time it makes your blood thick and also damages your Blood vessels resulting in less blood flow.

Because when our body is under stress it releases several hormones such as Cortisol and Adrenaline  to handle the situation our body is going through. The secretion of these stress hormones results in a decrease of happy hormones such as Oxytocin, dopamine, and serotonin which affects your Erection process.

3. High Cholesterol – 

Cholesterol are good for our body but not all types of cholesterol are good. There are two types of cholesterol LDL and HDL. When the HDL increases in our body it forms a waxy layer around the blood vessels which restricts the blood flow and nutrients supply to the cells thus damaging them. This may be the reason for ED.

Arrhythmia – This is the condition when the heart beats too fast or too slowly and can also with irregular heart rate.

Atherosclerosis – Formation of plaque on the wall and hardening of the arteries the condition is known as Atherosclerosis

Cardiomyopathy – The weakening of the heart muscle and unable to pump blood to other parts of the body.

Coronary artery disease –  Due to the formation of plaque in the arteries it becomes narrow and hard and unable to pump blood properly.
